We’ve seen our fair share of storms rip and roar through Central Texas.
And if that wasn’t enough, now you’re probably on alert against roofers who appeared out of the woodwork.
We know it’s tough and maybe a little dizzying trying to figure out which contractor is trustworthy and which roofer will really help you through the process of getting your property back to the shape it was in.
Well, that’s why we wrote this article for you.
We’re going to walk you through some things you should look for right away when choosing a roofing contractor.
You don’t need to choose us. But you do need to make a smart decision. And figuring out how to make a smart decision for yourself, especially if this is a first for you, could be daunting.
So, here are eight questions you ought to ask every contractor who approaches you.
1. “Do you have a place of business within reasonable driving distance?”
Our office is just a couple of miles west of Interstate 35, right off local highway 29 in Georgetown.
2. “Do you have credit with a material supplier?”
We have stellar relationships with three large national suppliers all with local warehouses and offices: Gulf Eagle, ABC Supply, and Southern Shingles. This allows us to offer 5-year workmanship warranties on all our projects because we always have access to materials. And not only that, we have a local warehouse where we keep our own supplies.
3. “Will you need money up front to pay for materials?”
The risk in paying upfront before any work has been performed is that you aren’t protected in any way from your contractor taking your money and moving on to the next project or the next town. We don’t collect one red cent until the day that materials have been delivered to your property in preparation for your project to begin.
4. “Are you a member of the Better Business Bureau?”
Reputable contractors will be long-standing members of the BBB. We have been accredited by the BBB since 2019 and have an A+ rating.
5. “Are you licensed with the state association?”
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas is admittedly a volunteer organization, but we are proud to be members. They will kick out contractors whose performance is substandard. Staying in good standing involves delivering quality work.
6. “Will you give me a choice in shingle brand?”
Your contractor should be able to inform you about the various brands available in our region. We proudly install a variety of shingle brands. If a contractor is really worth their salt, they should have “preferred contractor” status with at least one brand. We’re a Platinum Contractor with Owens Corning. This means that we have been vetted by Owens Corning and they have determined that we meet their high standards and satisfy their strict requirements for installation workmanship, that we carry a $1m general liability policy, that we have been screened for financial stability, and that we have operated under the same business name for at least three years.
7. “Are you insured?”
Always make sure that your contractor has current general liability and workers compensation insurance in case of an accident occurring at your home. You can request a copy of our insurance certificate to make sure it is in good standing.
8. “Do you have a crew leader or superintendent on your jobs?”
Our quality control procedures mean that your project will have at least one crew leader who is responsible for the quality of your installation. It doesn’t end there. We’ll send a quality control manager to your home to conduct a final inspection after your installation is complete.
